FC Bayern’s youth players once again showcased their talents during the team’s tour of Asia. In a 2-1 friendly victory over Jeju SK FC, Bastian Assomo and Felipe Chavez particularly impressed with their goals. Coach Vincent Kompany expressed satisfaction with his young players’ performances afterward—and at the same time gave them hope for the next step in their careers.
With several national team players and injured pros still sidelined, numerous academy players are getting the opportunity to showcase their skills with the first team during preseason. Against Jeju SK, 16-year-old Bastian Assomo and Felipe Chavez in particular seized this chance, both shining as goal scorers.
Kompany Highlights Other Top Talents
After the game, however, Kompany emphasized that FC Bayern currently does not have all of its promising young players available.
“We shouldn’t forget that we don’t have all the young players here with us: for example, Kiala, Daiber, Wisdom Mike, and Osmani,” explained the Belgian.
The players mentioned are currently still in rehabilitation training and were therefore unable to participate in the Asian tour.
Special praise for Assomo

Kompany was nevertheless very satisfied with the performances of the young players who took the field. The Bayern coach specifically singled out Bastian Assomo.
“For me, there’s no pressure on these young players—it’s a learning curve for them. Take Basti Assomo, for example, and the goal he scored—we know he’s capable of that. As a forward, he still has a lot of room for improvement, yes, but it was great to see a 16-year-old score a goal like that.”
At the same time, Kompany made it clear that he believes several young players are ready to make the leap to the next level—regardless of whether that happens at FC Bayern or, initially, at another club.
“There are players who are ready for the next step, whether with us or elsewhere. We have to support them on this path. They have to keep going!”
These comments once again underscore the importance of the Bayern Campus under Kompany. Last season, Lennart Karl already made his breakthrough with the first team thanks to strong performances in preseason. Now Assomo, Chavez, Maycon Cardozo, and other young talents want to follow in his footsteps.
