FC Bayern made a strong statement in the DFB Cup. With a commanding 6-1 victory over 1. FC Magdeburg, the record German champions secured their spot in the next round. Despite the lopsided score, however, the match was not a walk in the park for Munich from the start. Tom Bischof confirmed this after the final whistle.
In an interview with ARD, the 21-year-old midfielder expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance. At the same time, he made it clear that Bayern had by no means underestimated the second-division side.
Magdeburg posed challenges for Munich at times, especially in the first half. For Bischof, however, this came as no surprise.
“We definitely didn’t underestimate them.”
“We knew they had quality and play good soccer,” the Bayern youngster explained after the cup victory.
The visitors’ style of play, in particular, demanded a lot from the Munich team. “They try to chase us all over the field with the ball. That’s not so easy, but we had expected that,” Bischof emphasized.
The midfielder sees the fact that FC Bayern was initially pushed to its limits despite the clear difference in class as a normal part of a cup match. “It’s always a challenge against any opponent, but we definitely didn’t underestimate them.”
In the end, however, the individual quality of the German record champions clearly prevailed. “We knew they could play, and ultimately I think it’s an absolutely deserved victory for us,” Bischof concluded.
With the 6-1 victory, the Munich team fulfilled their duty and can now focus on the challenges ahead.

In addition to the on-field success, Bischof was particularly impressed by the atmosphere at the Allianz Arena.
Although the visitors, 1. FC Magdeburg, are a second-division team, 75,000 spectators watched the cup match in Munich.
For the young midfielder, this kind of atmosphere is by no means a given. “Incredible. It’s just fun to play in front of the fans—they’re always behind us,” Bischof gushed.
This was followed by a veritable declaration of love for his club. “I just think it’s great to play for FC Bayern here at the Allianz Arena.”
His comments underscore just how much the 21-year-old is enjoying his time with Germany’s record-holding champions.
With this decisive cup victory, Bayern has also gained further confidence for the challenges ahead.
Already this Saturday, the next big opponent—Borussia Dortmund—awaits the Munich side. The Allianz Arena is sure to provide a special atmosphere once again.
For Bischof and his teammates, the goal now is to carry the momentum from the cup match forward and deliver a strong performance in the Bundesliga classic as well.
