On Wednesday evening, FC Bayern hosted 1. FC Magdeburg in the DFB Cup and advanced to the round of 16 after a lively match that ended in a 6-1 victory.
Still plagued by personnel issues, the record champions went into the match against the second-division side, even though the situation had eased somewhat with the return of Aleksandar Pavlović.
As a result, Bayern was able to rotate its lineup a bit during the game and manage the workload well, thanks in part to the lopsided score. Even youngster David Santos Daiber managed to score a goal.
FC Bayern: Assistant Coach Danks Satisfied with Victory Over Magdeburg
Aaron Danks, standing in for Kompany, was asked for his thoughts after the game. Speaking to ARD, the assistant coach said he thought Magdeburg played quite well, but that his team showed the right attitude.
“It was a really good evening for us. It wasn’t that easy, though—the 6–1 final score was great. It really wasn’t that easy—we couldn’t get our pressing going very easily because they did a good job.Wehad a lot of control, especially in the second half, and I’m very happy about that,” Danks explained.
The assistant coach was also asked about head coach Vincent Kompany’s discharge from the hospital. Danks was pleased to hear the news, but it won’t change anything in terms of their current work.
“Not much will change right now. It’s great that he’s feeling better, but we won’t be changing our routines. He needs to recover now. He’s feeling better, he’s on the right track, and we’ll just keep going,” said Danks.
The assistant coach had already visited head coach Kompany in the hospital. When asked how he managed to avoid discussing specific soccer topics during the visit, he replied: “In the end, you always end up talking about soccer somehow. But we didn’t talk specifically about Bayern Munich when I visited him. He knows it’s important that he takes his time now.”
