Vincent Kompany apparently wants to prepare his team even better for the start of the season. According to information from BILD, FC Bayern is on the verge of arranging an additional friendly match. The opponent has reportedly already been decided.
FC Bayern could add another tough test to its preseason schedule. As BILD reports, final plans for an additional preseason match against 1. FC Heidenheim are currently being worked out behind the scenes.
According to the report, the match is scheduled to take place in the early evening of August 18 at the Voith-Arena. However, official confirmation from both clubs is still pending.
Kompany wants to give his World Cup stars more playing time
According to the report, there’s a clear reason for the additional friendly.
Several key players for the record champions will miss a large part of preseason due to their extended vacation following the World Cup. Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Dayot Upamecano, and summer signing Ismael Saibari will not be traveling with the team on the Asian tour and will therefore miss the friendly matches against Wehen Wiesbaden, FC Rottach-Egern, Jeju SK, and Aston Villa.
Until the Franz-Beckenbauer Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund on August 22, the World Cup players would thus have only the Telekom Cup against RB Leipzig on August 15 to get back into the rhythm of the game.
According to information from BILD, Vincent Kompany considers this insufficient and has therefore pushed for another opportunity to play a friendly.
Freund is said to have contacted Heidenheim
According to the report, sporting director Christoph Freund then set out to find a suitable opponent.
The Austrian reportedly called several clubs and finally found a match at 1. FC Heidenheim. Club president Holger Sanwald is said to have already agreed to host the match, so nothing should stand in the way of the friendly.
For Heidenheim, the match would also serve as a valuable opportunity to assess their current form. The team, which was relegated from the Bundesliga, would have already played two matchdays in the 2. Bundesliga by that point and would simultaneously be preparing for the first round of the DFB Cup.
FC Bayern is currently still at training camp on Lake Tegernsee. After the friendly against FC Rottach-Egern, the team will travel back to Munich before the Asia tour begins on Saturday.
Should the additional friendly take place as planned, Kompany would have one more opportunity shortly before the start of the regular season to bring his national team players—who are returning later—up to competitive level and to fine-tune the final tactics for the Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund.
