There is still a big question mark over Alexander Nübel’s sporting future. The 26-year-old goalkeeper is still on loan to AS Monaco until the end of the season. According to current media reports, a stay with the Monegasques is out of the question.
Last winter, Bayern would have loved to bring Nübel back to the Isar to replace the injured Manuel Neuer. However, the Monaco authorities vetoed the move and insisted that he stays until the end of the loan period on 30 June 2023. According to the French newspaper L’Equipe, the Monaco chapter is coming to an end for Nübel after two years. According to the report, those responsible have decided against signing the 26-year-old on a permanent basis.
Nübel Criticism Grows More and More
While Nübel was still one of the top performers and best keepers in Ligue 1 at the beginning of the season, the criticism has increased significantly in recent weeks. Even Monaco coach Philippe Clement recently made it clear that Nübel is too prone to mistakes: „I don’t think Alex has shown incredible saves in the last few games. His position could have been better for Strasbourg’s second goal,“ he said at the beginning of April after the 4-3 defeat against Racing Strasbourg.
How and, above all, where Nübel will continue next season is completely open. From 1 July, however, the goalkeeper will in all likelihood be back at Säbener Straße. There he will face a three-way battle with FCB captain Manuel Neuer and Yann Sommer. The ex-Schalker is still contractually bound to the record champions until 2025. Nübel has recently stressed that he is not willing to sit on the substitutes‘ bench again in Munich, he wants to play regularly.
According to reports, there are several interested clubs from Germany and abroad for the former U21 international. One thing is clear: Should Bayern receive an attractive offer for the keeper, they will certainly not put any obstacles in his way. His current market value is estimated at 10 million euros.
