A major shake-up between the posts is on the horizon for FC Bayern this coming summer. Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich could both retire at the end of the 2026–27 season. While a final decision hasn’t been made yet, the Munich club is already exploring possible solutions.
Jonas Urbig is slated to be the future No. 1. Above all, the club is looking for an experienced goalkeeper who could serve as the backup behind the 23-year-old. Most recently, Finn Dahmen of FC Augsburg has emerged as a key candidate.
Now, a much more prominent name has emerged. According to information from English transfer reporter Alan Nixon, Jordan Pickford of Everton FC is also on Bayern’s list.
Pickford as a new option for Bayern?
The 32-year-old brings a wealth of experience. Pickford has been the starting goalkeeper at Everton FC for years and has already made 91 appearances for England. His contract with the Toffees runs through 2029.
However, there reportedly have been no concrete negotiations between Bayern and Pickford so far. Rather, the English national team goalkeeper appears to be one of several names that club officials are considering as part of their long-term planning.
It also remains to be seen whether Pickford would even be interested in a role as the second-string goalkeeper. He is the undisputed starter at Everton and has shown no signs so far of wanting to leave the club.
It is precisely on this point that his situation differs significantly from Dahmen’s.
Dahmen remains a top candidate
As things stand, the Augsburg player would be available on a free transfer next summer and is still considered a top candidate in Munich. FCA coach Manuel Baum has also spoken publicly about Bayern’s interest and made it clear that a move to a bigger club could, in principle, be part of Augsburg’s philosophy.
However, Dahmen would also have to accept a new role. In Augsburg, the 28-year-old is the starting goalkeeper, whereas at FC Bayern, Urbig is expected to become the number one in the long run.
In Pickford’s case, a transfer fee would also be involved. With his contract running through 2029, Everton is in a strong negotiating position. Bayern also has another free-agent goalkeeper from the Premier League on its list: Bernd Leno.
Bayern’s search is still in its early stages. Much depends, for now, on how Neuer and Ulreich decide on their futures. However, the fact that an experienced Premier League goalkeeper like Pickford is now being linked with the club alongside Dahmen shows that the Munich side is already preparing intensively for a possible complete overhaul in goal.
