Jürgen Klopp’s start as Germany’s national team coach has been anything but ideal. A 1-1 draw against the Netherlands was followed by a 0-1 loss to Greece. But it seems there are some issues awaiting the 59-year-old off the field as well.
As Sky reporter Kerry Hau reported on the soccer talk show “At Broski – Die Sport-Show,” there is said to be dissatisfaction within the national team regarding the physical therapy support. The issue had already been a concern for the players during the 2026 World Cup.
Particularly noteworthy in this regard is the role of Joshua Kimmich. The Bayern star is said to have hired a renowned external physical therapist at his own expense during the tournament.
Several DFB stars sought treatment from outside sources
According to Hau, the DFB itself had a “huge staff” at its disposal. Nevertheless, Kimmich is said to have relied on an external specialist whom he apparently trusted.
The 31-year-old was by no means alone in this decision. As the tournament progressed, more and more national team players are said to have sought the physiotherapist’s services.
In the end, a double-digit number of DFB players reportedly received treatment from the external physical therapist. The treatments are said to have taken place in separate rooms near the German team’s hotel.
If these reports are confirmed, this would be a remarkable development. After all, the national team had its own medical and physical therapy staff during the World Cup.
Klopp Must Build Trust
Hau therefore sees this primarily as a fundamental issue within the national team. “It’s about trust within the inner workings of the DFB. These are areas that Klopp will certainly work on,” explained the Sky reporter.
For the new national team coach, this apparently involves more than just tactical changes and putting together his future roster. Klopp must also establish structures that his players trust completely.
On the field, the former Liverpool coach still has a lot of work ahead of him. After two games, Klopp is still waiting for his first win as national team coach.
