FC Bayern celebrated its third victory in the third competitive match of the new season. Although they conceded a goal in each match—against BVB, VfB Stuttgart, and now Osnabrück—there is still reason to be largely satisfied.
Joshua Kimmich, who was still very cautious right after the game against BVB, seemed satisfied after the match in Osnabrück. For him, there was a clear learning curve compared to the first few games.
But that isn’t the most important insight. Above all, the fact that the team no longer lets an early deficit rattle them was essential for Kimmich. In this regard, he looked back in particular to the years leading up to the 2025–26 season, when Bayern regularly went out of the cup, sometimes even against lower-division opponents like Holstein Kiel or Saarbrücken.
Kimmich sees a clear learning curve
“We’ve become more stable and reliable in what we do and how we play. We have solid principles and automatic responses that we bring to the field. You can see that we take every game very seriously, regardless of the opponent,” Kimmich explained after the match at the Bremer Brücke.
Since Vincent Kompany took the helm as head coach at Bayern, there has definitely been noticeable progress. The coach has stabilized the team, improved the team’s on-field coordination at the record-holding champions, and provided more solutions for tricky situations during matches. Since taking office, Bayern has lost only one cup match—a narrow 0–1 defeat against Leverkusen in their first season while playing a man down.
No wonder Joshua Kimmich is very pleased with this development. These improvements mean that the chances of winning titles this season—and specifically, the chances of winning the DFB Cup again—are getting higher and higher. And that can only be a good thing for Bayern.
