Harry Kane and Michael Olise are among Bayern’s candidates for the Ballon d’Or. Vincent Kompany is rooting for both of them—with a clear favorite.
At FC Bayern, the focus at the end of October isn’t just on the upcoming competitive matches. With Harry Kane and Michael Olise, two Munich stars are among the prominent candidates for the Ballon d’Or.
However, ahead of the Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg, Vincent Kompany didn’t want to speculate on who would ultimately win the award. The Bayern coach pointed out that voting had already concluded anyway.
“The voting’s already done, right? So there’s nothing I can do to change it anyway. I hope a Bayern player wins it. But of course, it’s more important to me that we win titles with Bayern. I know Harry Kane and Michael Olise well—they feel the same way,” he said.
Kompany Puts Team Success Above Individual Honors
With that, Kompany makes his priorities clear. A Ballon d’Or for a Bayern player would please the Belgian, but for him, the team’s success takes precedence over any individual honor.
Kompany apparently recognizes this same attitude in his two stars. Kane and Olise are among the squad’s most important players and, at the same time, are among the Bayern pros with the best chances of winning the prestigious award.
Kane, in particular, has been actively supported by Bayern officials in Munich for weeks. Most recently, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also spoke out clearly in favor of the Englishman. The former Bayern boss sees Kane’s individual performances, goals, and titles as decisive factors.

Kane himself had already stated that winning the Ballon d’Or would mean a great deal to him. At the same time, the 33-year-old made it clear that he does not want to campaign aggressively on his own behalf and prioritizes team success over individual awards.
Olise has also earned his place among the candidates with his performances. The Frenchman quickly developed into one of Bayern Munich’s most important attacking players and is now also among the outstanding players on the international stage.
Kompany can no longer influence who ultimately wins the award. His preference, however, is clear: if an individual award is to be given, he would most like to see it go to one of his Bayern stars.
