A scary moment for FC Bayern! In the second team’s 1-1 draw against SpVgg Unterhaching, a violent incident occurred early in the match. Bayern prospect Guido Della Rovere suffered a heavily bleeding head injury in a collision and had to be treated on the field for several minutes.
The Regionalliga derby between Bayern’s amateurs and Unterhaching was also in the spotlight due to the reunion with former coach Holger Seitz. The 52-year-old had coached the record champion’s second team until last summer, before Dante took over as head coach.
On the field, Munich got off to the better start. Noah Codjo-Evora gave Bayern a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. Shortly before the end, however, Unterhaching managed to equalize through Cornelius Pfeiffer.
The match was overshadowed by a violent injury incident early on.
Della Rovere suffered a bloody laceration to the head
During an aerial duel, Bayern prospect Guido Della Rovere and Unterhaching’s Luis Schäfer collided heads. Both players subsequently fell to the ground.
The 19-year-old Italian was particularly hard hit. Della Rovere suffered a large laceration on his forehead that was bleeding heavily. Medical staff immediately rushed onto the field to treat the forward.
The wound had to be closed with several staples right on the field. Afterward, the Italian U19 national team player was given a conspicuous turban-style bandage to protect the wound.
Despite the graphic images, there was at least some initial relief from Bayern’s perspective: Della Rovere was actually able to continue the match after several minutes of treatment.
The 19-year-old remained on the field until the 82nd minute before being substituted.
Things didn’t go as smoothly for Unterhaching’s Luis Schäfer. The defender, also 19, was unable to continue playing and had to be replaced by Luis Pfluger.
Bayern’s Reserves Miss Out on Derby Win
For Dante’s team, the evening also ended on a disappointing note from a sporting perspective. After Codjo-Evora’s early goal, it looked for a long time like a home win was in the cards.
But Unterhaching refused to give up and, thanks to Pfeiffer, managed to equalize 1–1 just before the final whistle. As a result, the Bayern amateurs had to settle for a single point in their matchup against their former coach, Seitz.
For Della Rovere, full recovery is likely to be the top priority for now following the violent collision. Even though the forward was able to continue playing, it remains to be seen whether the head injury will affect his availability in the coming weeks.
The Italian is one of FC Bayern’s most promising attacking talents and hopes to earn a spot on the first team through his performances with the reserve squad.
