FC Bayern has clearly declared the Champions League title as its goal. Vincent Kompany is now calling for the next step: words must be turned into action.
FC Bayern makes no secret of its ambitions in the Champions League. Even before the season began, Vincent Kompany had made it clear that the Munich team wants to go all the way this season. Now, the Bayern coach believes the time has come when words alone are no longer enough.
“I made it very clear right at the start of this season that we want to win the Champions League. But now that phase—where you have to say it—is over; now it’s time to deliver. We’re in a phase right now where we first have to get through the group stage. Once that’s over, you’ll face a new situation where you might draw an easy opponent or a very difficult one, and that will have an impact. In the end, you have to be stronger than every other team, and that’s not easy. But the goal is there, and it will always remain,” Kompany explained to Sky.
With this, the Belgian underscores that nothing has changed regarding the big goal. At the same time, he wants to shift the focus away from public title predictions and toward the daily work and the next tasks at hand.
Kompany is already thinking about the decisive phase
Bayern got off to a strong start in the Champions League season with a 5-0 win over Bodo/Glimt. Despite the resounding victory, Kompany had already pointed out afterward that his team had not yet reached its peak performance. Several players are still finding their rhythm.
Even within the club, winning the Champions League trophy is openly stated as a goal. Sporting Director Max Eberl had declared before the start of the Champions League: “We want to reach the final and, ideally, win it. We’ll do everything we can to make that happen. Bayern Munich aims to win every possible title.”

Harry Kane took a similar line. After the narrow semifinal exit against Paris Saint-Germain, the Englishman emphasized that this time, it had to be “our year.”
Kompany knows, however, that once the knockout stage begins, not only the team’s own quality but also the path through the competition plays a role. The draw and potential opponents can have a decisive influence on how difficult the road to the final will be.
Nevertheless, the Bayern coach leaves no doubt about the fundamental goal. FC Bayern wants to win the Champions League. For Kompany, however, the decisive phase now begins with confirming this self-belief on the field—game by game.
