Harry Kane is untouchable as Bayern Munich’s starting striker. The 33-year-old continues to score goals at a rapid pace and is also set to sign a contract extension. Nevertheless, the Munich club must address the long-term question of what comes next after the Englishman’s departure.
A new name has now apparently emerged in this context. According to information from transfer insider Ekrem Konur, Bayern is keeping an eye on Brian Brobbey of AFC Sunderland. The 24-year-old is reportedly on the German record champion’s shortlist.
However, it remains unclear just how serious these considerations actually are. There have been no indications so far of talks with Brobbey, his management, or Sunderland. A transfer in the near future is not expected anyway.
Brobbey brings a different kind of striker profile to the table
Brobbey embodies the classic center forward. The Dutchman stands out primarily for his immense physicality, explosiveness, and ability to hold up the ball with his back to the goal.
The striker is no stranger to Germany. In the summer of 2021, Brobbey moved from Ajax Amsterdam to RB Leipzig. His first stint in the Bundesliga, however, proved disappointing. After just 14 competitive matches without scoring a goal, he returned to Ajax shortly thereafter.
Brobbey has been under contract with AFC Sunderland since 2025. There, the 17-time Dutch international has developed significantly better. In 38 matches so far, he has scored ten goals. His market value is now estimated at around 40 million euros.
Added to this is his long-term contract situation: Brobbey is under contract with Sunderland through 2029. A potential transfer would therefore likely be anything but cheap.
Bayern is planning for the long term with Kane in mind
There is no immediate need for action at FC Bayern anyway. Instead, club officials are currently working to keep Kane at the club even longer. An extension through 2029 is on the table. The Englishman would be 36 years old at the end of such a contract.
Consequently, it makes sense for the Munich club to keep an eye on the market for center forwards early on. In addition to Brobbey, other forwards such as Nick Woltemade, Kaio Jorge, and even Erling Haaland have recently been linked with Bayern.
However, this does not mean that a decision has already been made regarding Kane’s eventual successor. In Brobbey’s case, in particular, it appears to be merely a matter of keeping an eye on him at the moment.
Nevertheless, the rumor shows that while Bayern is currently fully committed to Kane and wants to extend his contract, the search is apparently already underway behind the scenes for strikers who could be of interest in the long term for the post-Kane era.
