Zinédine Zidane isn’t exactly known for completely losing his cool on the sidelines. But Michael Olise managed to provoke a genuine emotional outburst from the French national team coach.
France prevailed 1-0 in the high-profile match against Belgium. The decisive goal was scored, of all people, by the Bayern star, who had only been substituted into the game in the closing minutes.
After Olise’s spectacular solo run and the subsequent winning goal, Zidane couldn’t hold back any longer. The 54-year-old celebrated wildly on the sidelines—a scene that quickly went viral online after the final whistle.
Olise needed just eleven minutes
Zidane initially left out several regular starters against Belgium. In addition to the injured Kylian Mbappé, the French national team coach made eight other changes to his starting lineup. Olise, too, started out on the bench.
France still got off to the better start. Désiré Doué hit the crossbar as early as the twelfth minute. After that, the match was evenly contested, with both teams having their chances.

In the 77th minute, Zidane finally brought on Olise—and it proved to be a masterstroke. Just eleven minutes later, the Bayern pro snatched the ball after a turnover and launched a powerful solo run right from midfield.
Several Belgian defenders were unable to stop Olise. In front of the goal, the 24-year-old kept his cool and slotted the ball into the lower left corner for the decisive 1-0 lead.
Zidane celebrates Olise’s stroke of genius
While Olise celebrated his goal with his teammates, Zidane provided the next memorable moment on the sideline. The Frenchman, who usually maintains a composed demeanor, let his emotions run wild and celebrated the goal exuberantly.
For Olise, this continues an impressive run. He had already been directly involved in five goals during Bayern Munich’s 7-0 win over Union Berlin. Now, wearing the Équipe Tricolore jersey, it took him just eleven minutes to make the difference once again.
