Erling Haaland and FC Bayern—this topic could heat up again in the future. Even before his move to Manchester City, the Munich club was taking a close look at the Norwegian striker. Now, the 26-year-old is reportedly back on the German record champion’s long-term radar.
As reported by the website Fichajes, Bayern is among the clubs that would be interested in Haaland should he leave Manchester City. The Munich club is therefore said to be closely monitoring developments at the top English club.
However, there is currently no talk of concrete negotiations or an imminent move. For Bayern, a Haaland transfer would be a scenario that could only become relevant if there were a fundamental change in his situation in Manchester.
Bayern is monitoring Haaland’s situation
The speculation stems from Manchester City’s uncertain future. Should this lead to a situation where Haaland considers leaving or actually becomes available on the market, Bayern could, according to the report, explore its options.
That would also fit in with the club’s long-term plans for the forward line. Currently, there is no reason for Munich to make a move at the center-forward position. Harry Kane is the undisputed starter and is even set to extend his contract.
Looking ahead, however, the record champions will need to address the issue of who will succeed the Englishman. Kane is now 33 years old and could sign his new contract through 2029 or even 2030.
Haaland would undoubtedly be a spectacular solution for this role. The Norwegian knows the Bundesliga inside and out from his time at Borussia Dortmund and was already on FC Bayern’s wish list back in 2022.
The financial package would be enormous
Unsurprisingly, the biggest hurdle would be the money. Haaland is under a long-term contract with Manchester City and is one of the highest-paid players in Europe. Should City agree to a sale, an enormous overall financial package would also be expected. His current market value is estimated at 220 million euros.
Bayern would therefore have to push its financial limits to sign him. On top of that, should Haaland become available, the record champions would face stiff competition from across Europe.
For now, this is merely a long-term thought experiment. Bayern are said to be monitoring the situation; according to available information, there is no concrete transfer plan in place.
However, should Haaland actually want to leave Manchester City, that could change. In that case, Bayern would apparently be willing to at least explore whether the former Dortmund player could return to Munich as Kane’s long-term successor.
