FC Bayern has finalized another transfer. The Munich club is bolstering its reserve team with talented South Korean left-back Doyeon Kim. The 18-year-old comes from the youth academy of first-division club Daejeon Hana Citizen and has signed a long-term contract with Bayern.
FC Bayern has announced the signing of South Korean left-back Doyeon Kim. In Munich, the 18-year-old is set to bolster the reserve team.
Kim had previously showcased his skills during a trial stint in Munich. The youngster apparently made a strong impression and earned himself a move to the Campus.
“Doyeon trained with us for some time as a guest player and made a strong case for joining us,” explained Michael Wiesinger, Head of Sports and Youth Development at FC Bayern.
The new left back will initially play for Bayern’s amateur team. A direct role with the first team is therefore not planned. Rather, Kim is expected to take the next step in his development in Munich and get accustomed to European soccer.
„We’ve had good experiences with young players from South Korea in recent years and are convinced that Doyeon, too, will take the next step in his development with our reserve team,“ said Wiesinger.
Bayern Continues to Rely on Talent from South Korea
Kim joined the Daejeon Hana Citizen academy in 2021 and played for various youth teams there. Most recently, he played for the club’s U18 team.
The 18-year-old has also gained international experience. Kim has made twelve appearances for the South Korean U17 national team so far.
With this signing, the record champions are also continuing their collaboration with young players from South Korea. Kim is not the first South Korean talent to make the leap to Europe via the Bayern Campus.
At FC Bayern, Kim is following in the footsteps of Woo-Yeong Jeong and Hyunju Lee. Both developed their skills with Bayern’s amateur teams and subsequently made the leap to professional soccer in Europe.
Just recently, the Munich club signed another young South Korean player, Jae-Won Heo, for its U19 team.
Doyeon Kim is thus the next young South Korean looking to continue his development at FC Bayern. For now, the left-back’s priority is to establish himself with the amateur team. In the long term, however, the 18-year-old could represent an interesting prospect for the record champions.
