Vincent Kompany’s collapse has caused great consternation at FC Bayern. The 40-year-old head coach had to be taken to a hospital on Friday afternoon after suffering a medical emergency at the training facility on Säbener Straße. Now, Honorary President Uli Hoeneß has also spoken out, expressing his concern over the events.
In an interview with WELT, the 74-year-old described how he reacted to the news of the Bayern coach’s collapse. At the same time, Hoeneß expressed confidence that Kompany is receiving the best possible medical care.
“Like all of us, I was initially shocked, but Vincent is in the best hands with our doctors and the specialists at the hospital,” explained the longtime Bayern chairman.
According to the club, Kompany is now in stable condition. However, the exact cause of his collapse remains unclear. The Belgian is therefore expected to remain in the hospital for several more days to undergo a thorough examination.
Hoeneß: Kompany is getting all the time in the world
It is particularly important to Hoeneß that the head coach not be pressured to return to the sidelines as quickly as possible.
“We all hope that he can return to the team as soon as possible—and he will be given as much time as he needs,” the honorary president emphasized to WELT.
In doing so, Hoeneß underscores the stance of Bayern’s leadership, who had already made it clear immediately after the incident that the coach’s health is the top priority.
Sports director Max Eberl stated on Saturday that a quick return for Kompany should not be expected. Rather, it is likely to take several weeks.
The Munich club is deliberately avoiding setting a specific date for his return.
The Bayern family stands behind its coach

The strong sense of unity within the record-holding champions was also evident on Saturday. According to BILD, Hoeneß personally visited his coach in the hospital and brought him food from the Munich delicatessen company Käfer.
Eberl also made his way to the hospital after the press conference ahead of the Bundesliga match against SC Freiburg.
Kompany had already been battling a persistent viral infection in the days leading up to his collapse. It remains unclear whether this is related to the medical emergency.
While the Belgian is expected to focus on his recovery, assistant coach Aaron Danks will take over coaching duties for the time being.
For Hoeneß and the entire Bayern leadership, one thing is certain: Kompany will not return to the bench until his health permits it. Upcoming matches will not factor into this decision.
