Is FC Bayern facing a surprise departure on the defensive side? Alphonso Davies could apparently be on FC Barcelona’s radar. According to the Spanish website El Nacional, Barça coach Hansi Flick is considering signing the Canadian international. However, a potential transfer depends on another personnel decision by the Catalans.
According to the report, Barcelona could become active in the transfer market should Alejandro Balde leave the club. In that case, Flick is said to have his eye on Davies as a potential replacement.
The former Bayern coach knows the left back very well from his time in Munich. Under Flick, Davies developed into one of the best players in his position and was among the key contributors to the team that won the historic sextuple in 2020.
Now, a reunion could be on the horizon.
Flick has his eye on Davies as a replacement for Balde
According to El Nacional, Flick would try to bring the 25-year-old to Barcelona if Balde does indeed leave the Catalans.
With his tremendous speed, attacking instincts, and international experience, Davies brings exactly the qualities that Flick values on the left side of defense.
However, this is still just a hypothetical scenario. The key factor, for now, is whether Balde will even leave the Spanish champions.
Added to that is the Catalans’ financial situation. Signing Davies is likely to be anything but easy, given his market value and salary.
Bayern executives and Kompany are at odds over Davies

The rumor is particularly interesting in light of the Canadian’s current situation with the German record champions. There have recently been reports suggesting that Bayern officials would, in principle, consider selling Davies.
However, coach Vincent Kompany is said to be opposed to letting the left back go. The Belgian values Davies and would like to continue relying on his qualities in the future.
As a result, a potential move by Barcelona could once again bring the differing views within the club to the forefront.
On the field, Munich now has another interesting option at left back in Nathaniel Brown. Nevertheless, Davies remains one of the most valuable players on the roster due to his experience and unique skills.
It therefore seems questionable whether Bayern would actually be willing to let the Canadian go.
For now, Davies is primarily a name on Flick’s potential wish list. It remains to be seen whether this will lead to serious transfer talks.
