Pedro Porro is repeatedly linked with FC Bayern. The Spanish World Cup champion would certainly fit the Munich club’s requirements on the field. However, there are currently no concrete efforts to sign the right back. The current squad situation also argues against a transfer this summer.
Porro has further increased his already strong market value with his performances at the World Cup. The 26-year-old was a regular starter for Spain at right back and capped off the tournament by winning the World Cup title.
So it’s no wonder that the Tottenham player has recently been linked with several top European clubs. Bayern Munich, too, has repeatedly been mentioned as a potential suitor.
Most recently, even former Bayern player Valérien Ismaël publicly spoke out in favor of signing him. “Spain’s Pedro Porro has shown that he’s an incredible defender. He would truly be a superb addition for Bayern Munich,” he told BILD.
In his view, Porro has everything a modern fullback needs: speed, strength in one-on-one situations, and offensive qualities. Ismaël is therefore convinced that the Spaniard would fit very well into Vincent Kompany’s team.
Insider Denies Talks with Bayern
Despite the sporting arguments in his favor, a move to Munich does not appear to be on the table at the moment. As BILD’s soccer editor Christian Falk reports, Porro is not currently a specific transfer target for the German record champions.
According to the report, no talks regarding a signing have taken place so far. Reports of a secret meeting with the player or his agent are also incorrect.
Furthermore, there is simply no urgent need for a right-back at the moment.
Bayern is well-staffed at right back
Kompany already has two established options at his disposal in Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic. Sacha Boey also remains on the roster. While the Frenchman is allowed to leave the club if a suitable offer comes along, even if Boey were to depart, signing Porro does not appear to be in the plans at this time.
As a result, the World Cup champion is likely to be more of an interesting option for the future. It would come as little surprise if Bayern were keeping a player of this caliber on their radar.
For this summer, however, a clear trend is emerging: Porro is known to the club’s leadership, but no concrete move is currently planned.
