FC Bayern’s roster could see another addition this winter. Although the Munich club is generally satisfied with its current squad, team officials still see room for improvement in one position.
According to information from BILD, the German record champions are monitoring the transfer market with an eye toward the left wing. Ideally, Bayern would like to sign a player who can take some of the pressure off Luis Díaz and provide the squad with additional options.
A signing in January is by no means a done deal. Rather, the Munich club apparently intends to act if a suitable opportunity arises during the winter transfer window.
Bayern lacks a traditional backup for Díaz
The reasoning behind these considerations is understandable. Under Vincent Kompany, Díaz is virtually irreplaceable on the left wing. There is no classic backup for the Colombian in the current first-team roster.
Following the loan of Arijon Ibrahimovic to FC Augsburg, Bayern now lacks another natural option for this position. While Kompany has several versatile attacking players at his disposal and can adjust his tactics, a positional replacement for Díaz would certainly be helpful given the heavy workload.
The tightly packed schedule alone demonstrates just how important additional relief could be. Bayern are competing in the Bundesliga, the Champions League, and the DFB Cup. Injuries or fluctuations in form could therefore quickly further limit their options on the left wing.
Díaz himself recently emphasized that he would certainly welcome some support from his teammates.
No specific candidate has yet emerged as a leading candidate.
According to BILD, however, the search is still in its early stages. There is currently no specific player whose signing is already being actively pursued.
Instead, Bayern is monitoring the market and apparently intends to wait and see what opportunities arise between now and January. This suggests that Max Eberl and Christoph Freund will not push for a transfer at any cost.
As early as last summer, the Munich club had been looking into additional reinforcements for their offense. A transfer of Anthony Gordon, for example, was considered, but in the end, the overall package proved too expensive for Bayern.
Now, the issue could gain momentum again this winter. The key factor is likely to be whether a player becomes available who can make an immediate impact on the field while also fitting within the record champion’s financial parameters.
One thing seems clear: Bayern would like to sign an additional backup for Díaz. Whether this actually results in a winter transfer depends primarily on what opportunities arise on the market.
