FC Bayern continues to push forward with its restructuring at the Campus. The Munich club has now officially filled another key position in its youth development program.
FC Bayern has officially confirmed the signing of Bernhard Seonbuchner. The 42-year-old is moving from the Red Bull Academy in Salzburg to Munich and will assume the role of Head of Player and Coach Development & Transition at the Bayern Campus.
This adds another experienced professional with many years of expertise in talent development to the record champion’s youth department. Together with Michael Wiesinger, Seonbuchner will form the sports leadership team at the Campus. Both will work under the direction of Youth Director Jochen Sauer.
With this appointment, FC Bayern continues on its chosen path of further professionalizing its youth development program and, in particular, optimizing the transition from the youth to the professional ranks.
Bayern is broadening its base
Jochen Sauer, Director of Youth Development at Bayern, explained the decision as follows: “When we were considering the hiring of Michael Wiesinger, it was clear to all of us that we did not want to have just one person responsible for the sports side of the campus in the future. Our experience—and the successes we’ve had with so many professional debuts—have shown that we need to expand our structure and operate more professionally in this area to meet the many challenges young players face in their day-to-day lives, especially during the transition from the junior to the professional ranks. Bernhard Seonbucher brings many years of expertise in talent development and is the ideal choice for us to work alongside Michael. By working closely with both of them, we aim to continue on our path to success and further improve our athletic performance.”
It had already been reported a few days ago that Seonbucher was set to take on an important role at FC Bayern. The move is now official.

A native of Bavaria, he has worked almost continuously for Red Bull Salzburg and FC Liefering since 2007. During the 2023–24 season, he even served as sporting director at Red Bull Salzburg. Most recently, he served as sporting director at FC Liefering, which is considered Red Bull Salzburg’s talent incubator.
Focus on coach development and young talent
At the campus, Seonbuchner will primarily be responsible for the continued development of coaches and the team’s playing philosophy. In addition, he will work closely with the young talents who are regularly being introduced to the professional ranks.
The 42-year-old is looking forward to his new role with great anticipation: “I’ve had many productive discussions with the decision-makers at FC Bayern. I’m looking forward to the challenge of contributing to talent development at one of Europe’s most successful clubs, as well as to working directly with Michael Wiesinger, Jochen Sauer, and all my colleagues at the campus.”
With Seonbuchner, FC Bayern is bringing another proven youth development expert to Munich. At the same time, this further expands the influence of the former Salzburg network at Säbener Straße. Alongside sporting director Christoph Freund, campus director Jochen Sauer, assistant coach Rene Maric, and talent coordinator Richard Kitzbichler, the next experienced Red Bull specialist is now joining the record champions.
