For Jamal Musiala, the evening at the Allianz Arena could hardly have gone better. In his first start of the season, the returning player put Bayern ahead shortly after halftime, setting the stage for a decisive 5-0 home victory.
After the game, Musiala’s delight at his performance was clearly evident. “I was really happy after the goal. I’m glad to finally be back in the groove. My first start in the Champions League—I’m really happy. I’m just happy,” he explained into the DAZN microphone.
Musiala: “Everyone’s support really helped me”
Musiala had gone through a difficult journey back onto the field in recent weeks. That made the support within the club all the more important to him, as he explained.
“I’ve gotten a lot of support from the coach and the team. I’m really going to enjoy tonight,” the 23-year-old emphasized, adding, “Everyone’s support has really helped me. I just want to get back to my best form.”
Health-wise, Musiala feels he’s now on the right track. “Physically, I feel really good now that the plate has been removed. I just want to get back to my usual level step by step, with that same ease, joy, and fun on the field.”
“I haven’t felt that way in a while”
The Bayern star’s renewed joy was particularly evident on the field. He confirmed that impression in an interview: “I haven’t had the feeling I had today in a while. I’m happy about that.”
At the same time, Musiala knows he’s not quite back to 100 percent yet: “I know there’s still room for improvement. I’m looking forward to that, but having fun with the team on the field is the most important thing.”
However, he couldn’t say exactly how close he is to 100 percent. Given today’s performance, hopes of seeing “the old” Musiala again soon have likely risen significantly.
