FC Bayern kicked off the new Champions League season with a convincing 5-0 home win against Bodø/Glimt. After a difficult first half, the Munich team stepped up their game after the break. Harry Kane was understandably pleased after the match—and is already looking ahead to the upcoming challenges in the Champions League.
Vincent Kompany’s team initially struggled to create clear scoring chances against the defensively minded Norwegians. Although Bayern controlled the game and had significantly more possession, Bodø goalkeeper Nikita Haikin made several saves to prevent his team from falling behind before halftime.
After halftime, the deadlock was broken within a matter of seconds. Jamal Musiala scored the opening goal on his return to the starting lineup, marking Bayern’s historic 900th European Cup goal. Kane and Alphonso Davies then added goals, before Michael Olise sealed the 5-0 victory with a brace.

Speaking into the DAZN microphone after the final whistle, Kane particularly highlighted the Munich team’s patience. “We’re very happy with the result. We had to be patient, especially in the first half. The goalkeeper made a few good saves. The quick goal right after the restart really helped us. But we also saw last season that we can step it up after the 60th minute, just like today. This is the beginning of what we hope will be a long journey. We wanted to get off to a good start in the Champions League season in front of our fans.”
In fact, after Musiala’s opening goal, the match quickly took a clear turn. In the 61st minute, Kane added another goal himself. Michael Olise sent a free kick from the right side into the penalty area, where the Englishman was on hand to head it in and make it 2–0.
With that, the striker picked up right where he left off in his strong 2025–26 Champions League season. Back then, Kane had scored 14 goals in 13 matches and finished just behind Kylian Mbappé in the race for the top scorer title.
Bayern Makes Its First Statement
For Bayern, the convincing victory was also the desired response to the disappointing 0-0 draw at FC Schalke 04. In that match, the record champions failed to score for the first time in 59 consecutive competitive games. Against Bodø/Glimt, it also took a half for the offense to get going, but Kompany’s team proved extremely efficient afterward.
Particularly noteworthy: Bayern has thus further extended its extraordinary streak to start the Champions League. Since 2003, the Munich side has now won its opening match in all 23 of its Champions League appearances.
The 5-0 victory also puts FCB in an excellent position right from the start of the new league phase. After the first matchday, Bayern sits in second place in the standings with three points and a goal difference of +5, behind Paris Saint-Germain.
Kane’s statement, however, makes it clear that the Munich team isn’t content with just a successful start. FC Bayern’s ultimate goal this season is the final on June 5, 2027, in Madrid. The first step on the way there has been taken—and Kane hopes the journey will continue for a very long time.
