There is still a big question mark over Joshua Kimmich’s sporting future at FC Bayern. According to the latest reports, both parties can imagine a departure in the summer. The 29-year-old has now spoken out himself and revealed that the search for a coach in Munich played an important role in his decision.

The pay-TV channel Sky recently reported that Kimmich has not ruled out leaving Bayern in the summer. According to the report, he is flirting with a move to England or Spain.

However, no decision has yet been made as to what will happen to the midfielder after the current season: „The situation is very clear to me. I still have over a year left on my contract, which is why I’m relaxed about it,“ explained the international in an interview with Welt am Sonntag.

Kimmich wants to wait and see when the coach is found

From the player’s point of view, there is no need to rush. Those responsible at Säbener Straße probably see things a little differently. FCB are not prepared to lose Kimmich on a free transfer in 2025. In plain language: A decision must be made next summer: Extend or sell.

Interestingly, Kimmich says that he cannot or does not want to make this decision at the moment. This is mainly due to the fact that the new Bayern coach plays a key role in his decision-making process: „As things stand, it’s still unclear who our new coach will be from the summer. That is of course very interesting and important to know who it will be,“ emphasised the German international.

Under Thomas Tuchel, Kimmich has lost much of his reputation in Munich this season. The former Bayern midfield boss has not only had to give up his regular place in the centre for the unpopular right-back position, but the ongoing six-man debate is also said to be annoying the DFB international.

First Bayern and the European Championship, then his sporting future

According to Kimmich, he wants to fully focus on sporting matters in the coming months: „First of all, it’s about making the season as positive as possible in the Bundesliga and the Champions League,“ he says, adding: „Then there’s the European Championship. Those are the things that count.“

Only then does the 29-year-old want to focus more intensively on his sporting future.
