Jamal Musiala continues to work toward his return to action. After the Bayern star was recently able to resume participating in parts of team training, attention is now turning to the Bundesliga matchup against Schalke 04. At the press conference, Vincent Kompany left open whether the 23-year-old is already an option for the game.
On Saturday at 6:30 p.m., FC Bayern will face FC Schalke 04 on the road. Kompany did not want to reveal yet whether Jamal Musiala will be back in the record champions’ lineup by then.
“He had a good, full week of training. Things are looking up for him; he’s doing well. We’ve already explained how we’re handling this. You can’t treat everything as extraordinary. Jamal is in a good phase right now. We’ve been dealing with this situation for quite some time,” Kompany explained ahead of the match against Schalke.
“We’ll see how he does in training today and then make the decision that’s best for Jamal and the team,” added the Bayern coach.
This means that Musiala’s return against Schalke remains uncertain. Although the attacking player is on his way back after a difficult period with his health, FC Bayern does not want to take any unnecessary risks with his return.
Even before the Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart, Kompany had emphasized that the national team player’s return should be a step-by-step process. Musiala had already resumed training with the team at that point, but was not yet an option for the match against Stuttgart. Musiala was also not on the roster for the DFB Cup match against VfL Osnabrück.
Bayern doesn’t want to take any risks
For the Munich club, the top priority remains ensuring the 23-year-old’s full recovery. Following his recent health issues, his medication has been adjusted. Musiala must get used to the new dosage and is to be carefully reintroduced to the demands of professional soccer.
Kompany had already stated that decisions regarding Musiala’s return would be made in close consultation with experts. Officials at the record-holding champions have not yet revealed a specific timeline.
Nevertheless, there is reason for hope. After initially training only on his own, the German national team player is now back participating in team training.
It therefore remains to be seen when Musiala will actually return to the Bayern squad. One thing is clear, however: The Munich club does not want to rush anything with their star forward and intends to determine the timing of his comeback in consultation with the experts.
