To kick off the new season, FC Bayern celebrated a 5-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart. What was particularly impressive was how the record champions were able to repeatedly pick up the pace.
Quite a few fans and experts fear another season that will be anything but exciting. Even in the 2025–26 season, Bayern was able to clearly outpace the competition in the league.
Is that a threat this time as well? It’s possible, especially since Leverkusen lost right off the bat, RB Leipzig hasn’t exactly been playing out of this world yet, and a lot is new at BVB, where there are concerns about new signing Giannis Konstantelias.
Dreesen doesn’t want to hear anything about boredom
Meanwhile, FC Bayern isn’t having any of this talk of potential boredom. This has a lot to do with the fact that people in Munich really enjoy watching their own team play. “I can’t speak for the other 17 clubs. As far as I’m concerned, I don’t find it boring. We’re here to play good soccer, which will hopefully be successful,” explained CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen.
And he added: “We still have a lot planned!” This means that FC Bayern certainly won’t be resting on its recent laurels. Their next opponent is Osnabrück, followed by an away match against Schalke 04. After victories, you pat each other on the back and have the chance to enjoy the moment. But after that, the focus shifts right back to the next challenge.
That’s not necessarily good news for the Bundesliga. But it’s not FC Bayern’s job to ensure that the race at the top is as close as possible. Rather, it’s about getting the most out of their own potential.
Sports Director Max Eberl put it aptly after the season-opening win in the Bundesliga: “Even if it sounds simplistic—now it’s off to the Bremer Brücke.” And that’s exactly the right approach for Bayern.
