Vincent Kompany has responded to reports claiming that he wanted to make another major transfer at FC Bayern this summer. The Bayern coach appeared visibly surprised by the reports and firmly denied the claims.
According to a report in Sport BILD, Kompany reportedly wanted to sign a third high-profile player for his squad in addition to Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari. The Belgian’s request was reportedly submitted internally and subsequently discussed with club management.
In the end, however, Bayern decided against another major signing and instead chose to focus more on their own young talent. Kompany is said to support this approach following discussions with club officials.
Kompany categorically denies the report
At the press conference ahead of the match against FC Schalke 04, Kompany was confronted with the reports. His reaction was surprisingly clear. The 40-year-old made it clear that he wants nothing to do with the alleged transfer plans.
„That came out of nowhere. I didn’t even wake up thinking about that. What we discuss internally stays internal. But I’m totally surprised that something like this was making the rounds; I didn’t even wake up thinking about that.“
The Bayern coach also couldn’t explain how the rumors might have started: “I wonder how this came about. A lot of things just become a hot topic very quickly, without any truth behind them.”
Sports Director Christoph Freund also denied the rumors: “We talk every day, and we’ve never discussed this,” explained the 49-year-old.
One thing is certain: The Munich club deliberately opted for a relatively low-key transfer strategy this summer. In addition to Brown and Saibari, the club also signed 18-year-old prospect Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, among others. The goal is to integrate young players more closely into the professional team in the future.
Kompany himself, in any case, seems to remain satisfied with the path the club has taken—while at the same time clearly distancing himself from reports that he allegedly demanded a third top-tier transfer.
