But if coach Vincent Kompany has his way, the debate about new records is still premature. According to the Belgian, the priority right now is to get the basics right on the field and pick up points.
Kompany: Records “totally unimportant right now”
The coach believes it’s far too early to be talking about records just yet. “That’s totally unimportant to me right now. The most important thing is the three points. It’s kind of in this team’s DNA to know where the goal is and to always score more goals or want to score more goals,” said the coach.
Undoubtedly, games like the one against VfB Stuttgart still send a message to the competition. Things aren’t even running smoothly for Bayern yet, and yet they not only clearly defeated an opponent that also plays in the Champions League but also clearly dominated them during many phases of the match.
But Bayern doesn’t have any time to dwell on statistics or records. The Cup match in Osnabrück is already on the schedule for Wednesday, Schalke 04 awaits in the Bundesliga on Saturday, and then the Champions League kicks off right after that. Training weeks are already getting shorter—that’s something they’ll have to deal with.
That’s precisely why Kompany’s message is all the more important. FC Bayern would be well advised to focus now on the important and essential things. Incidentally, Manuel Neuer also underscored this after the game, emphasizing that Bayern must do their own homework.
