Despite his young age, Jamal Musiala is an absolute top performer at FC Bayern and is seen as the face of a golden future for the German record champions. Recently, however, there have been more and more reports about a possible Bayern departure. Are these rumours just a means to an end?

Jamal Musiala was once again the best player on the pitch in Bayern’s 5-2 win over Darmstadt 98. He shone in Saturday’s game with two goals, an assist and a number of successful dribbles. Musiala has already shown a clear upward trend in form in recent weeks. In the last three Bundesliga games, the youngster has scored four goals and provided three assists.

Unsurprisingly, a contract extension with the DFB international – in addition to the search for a coach – is currently a top priority for the Munich management. Although Musiala’s contract runs until 2026, rumours have recently surfaced that the high-class technician could be looking for a move.

Is Musiala using the rumours to his advantage?

As the Catalan portal El Nacional suspects, Musiala could want to use the rumours surrounding him as leverage in the contract poker with the Bayern bosses. Specifically, the newspaper cites reports of a possible move to Real Madrid.

According to the paper, Musiala „never thought about ending up in the Spanish capital.“ On the one hand, he does not believe that he could be given the leading role he has in mind at the Whites. On the other hand, he never intended to actually leave Bayern. Rather, Musiala is interested in strengthening his own negotiating position.

El Nacional even goes one step further and claims that the 21-year-old is unhappy with the offer from Munich so far. Musiala reportedly wants to become the second-highest paid professional behind Harry Kane. Meanwhile, the impending departure of Thomas Tuchel in the summer is cited as another reason for Musiala to remain in the Bavarian capital.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently reported that FCB’s management would only like to hold concrete negotiations with Musiala in the coming weeks. In addition to a salary increase, the player is said to be focussing on the sporting prospects in Munich – in particular the ability to compete in the Champions League.
