Even though Max Eberl’s to-do list is very long, the search for a new head coach is FC Bayern’s top priority. According to the latest reports, those responsible at the Isar want to go full throttle in the coming weeks.

„It’s not an easy task,“ emphasised Max Eberl last weekend before the Bundesliga match against Mainz 05 when asked about the search for a coach at FC Bayern. The Munich sporting director also made it clear that there is no rush: „The important thing is that we do the right thing and not the quickest possible thing.“

Nevertheless, Eberl knows that without a new head coach, he can only make limited progress with planning for the new season. Neither the planned squad reorganisation nor the transfer period in the summer can be implemented without a new coach.

Bayern are pushing for a quick decision

It remains to be seen when FCB will present a successor to Thomas Tuchel at the latest. However, as the Abendzeitung München reports, this could happen sooner than previously assumed. According to the newspaper, the Bayern bosses are pushing for a decision on the coaching bench before the end of March, or in April at the latest. The aim is to achieve clarity and planning security at Säbener Straße.

In Xabi Alonso, Bayern have already identified a favourite candidate. The problem is that the 42-year-old does not want to make any concrete decisions about his sporting future until after the current season. In other words: in May at the earliest.

Even though Eberl has recently publicly denied that Bayern are holding concrete talks with Alonso or other candidates, according to information from Sky, there is still a lot going on in the background. FCB are said to be in direct contact with both the management and Alonso.

Should the German record champions come away empty-handed with Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton & Hove Albion is considered to be FC Bayern’s plan B. Eberl in particular is said to be a great friend of the Italian.
