New German national team coach Jürgen Klopp has announced his first DFB roster. The 59-year-old has thrown in plenty of surprises regarding player selections. FC Bayern is also affected by this.
There has been a lot of discussion in recent days about Jürgen Klopp’s upcoming squad announcement. Now the cat is out of the bag. On Thursday, the new national team coach announced his squad for the four upcoming Nations League matches.
Klopp has called up a total of 44 players for the four international matches against the Netherlands, Greece, Serbia, and Greece again.
As expected, Klopp has deliberately chosen to name an XXL squad in order to get to know and evaluate as many players as possible. Klopp plans to split the expanded squad into two teams, so there will be a player rotation on September 27. The so-called “Team 1” will play the Nations League matches against the Netherlands in Amsterdam (September 24) and Greece in Augsburg (September 27). After the second match, some players will leave and new ones will join. “Team 2” will then play the matches against Serbia in Munich (October 1) and the return match against Greece in Thessaloniki (October 4).
While this approach has never been used before, the upcoming international break is also a week longer than usual.
Klopp names nine Bayern players to the squad
With Jonas Urbig, Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, Nathaniel Brown, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Tom Bischof, Jonathan Tah, and Lennart Karl, a total of six players from Germany’s record-holding champions have been called up. This means Bayern continues to provide the largest contingent on the German national team.
