Ahead of the start of the new Champions League season, Neuer addressed the question of who will be in goal against Bodø/Glimt during the pre-match press conference. According to the goalkeeper, a final decision has not yet been made.
“None of us decides that—it’s up to the coach and the coaching staff,” Neuer explained regarding the lineup. In addition to Neuer, Jonas Urbig could also start in goal.
Both goalkeepers are therefore preparing equally for a possible appearance: “We communicate, but there’s no agreement regarding tomorrow’s game. We’re both always preparing ourselves so that we’re ready to play.”
The decision ultimately rests with Vincent Kompany. Neuer himself, however, has a clear sense of who will start against the Norwegian club: „The coach picks the lineup; I have a feeling I’ll be playing, and that’s how I’m preparing.“
Neuer Ahead of His Next Champions League Match
This suggests that Neuer will be in goal for Bayern when they kick off the new Champions League season. The veteran has already experienced numerous Champions League matches throughout his career and remains one of Munich’s key players.
