FC Bayern dropped two points at Schalke. Despite some good chances, the record champions could not manage more than a 0-0 draw. Vincent Kompany expressed disappointment after the game, but did not want to view his team’s performance solely in a negative light.
While FC Bayern can’t be satisfied with the draw at Schalke, Schalke fans celebrated their team’s 0–0 result after the match. Bayern coach Kompany also had words of praise for the Royal Blues.
“Congratulations to Schalke; they fought hard for the point. We had our moments and created some good chances,” the Bayern coach told Sky after the final whistle.
Kompany identified a lack of efficiency as the decisive factor. Bayern created several good opportunities against Schalke’s compact defense but was unable to capitalize on them.
“When you play against such a compact and aggressive team, you have to capitalize on your chances. We could have won this game, but congratulations to Schalke. Next time, we have to score our goals,” said the Belgian.
Kompany also wanted to emphasize the fact that Bayern had several great scoring chances despite the scoreless draw: “We had our chances. It’s not as if we’re leaving this stadium without having had any big chances. But that’s soccer.”

At the same time, the Bayern coach paid the hosts a huge compliment. Schalke defended compactly and passionately for long stretches, holding the record champions scoreless for the first time this Bundesliga season.
„Every game has its own story. Unfortunately, today we weren’t able to score. But that in no way detracts from Schalke’s performance. They really fought hard and closed down the spaces well,“ Kompany explained.
The Bayern coach still saw some positives, however. In particular, his team’s counter-pressing worked well: “Our counter-pressing, on the other hand, was exceptional today; we didn’t allow a single chance. And we created many clear scoring opportunities against a compact defense, so there are positives as well.”
In the end, however, it remains a disappointing result for Bayern. Kompany is well aware of the high expectations in Munich: “In the end, it’s the result that counts. At FC Bayern, you can only be happy if you win.”
Following their 5-1 victory over Stuttgart in the Bundesliga opener, Bayern now has four points after two matchdays. Attention is already turning to the Champions League. On Thursday, the record champions will host FK Bodø/Glimt.
