Coach Vincent Kompany is currently sidelined from FC Bayern after collapsing following a Bayern training session. The Belgian needs time to recover and is currently in the hospital.
Further tests are being conducted there before it will be possible to estimate how long the coach will be out, Max Eberl explained at the press conference ahead of Sunday’s game against Freiburg.
However, Eberl made it clear that we’re talking about weeks, not days. There have reportedly been voices within the team recently expressing concern about Kompany’s heavy workload.
Danks: Positive Signs for Kompany
Before the match against Freiburg, Aaron Danks, FC Bayern’s assistant coach, provided another update on the coach’s condition; Kompany remains in the hospital.
“We’ve been in touch again. Things are looking better; he’s stable and feeling better. The signs are very positive. But the tests are still ongoing—that’s important to note. I’m giving him the time he needs to recover; we didn’t talk about soccer, but instead did exactly as we had discussed beforehand,” Danks told DAZN. That’s good news. Nevertheless, it’s important that the head coach continues to get plenty of rest so he can fully recover.

Of course, the Kompany shock also had an impact on match preparations. But Danks emphasized that he had already prepared the team accordingly even before the game against Arsenal—a match Kompany was ultimately able to watch from the bench.
“It was obviously a strange week, and it’s a unique situation, but we have to—and can—deal with it. The team is very focused; we’re prepared for the opponent,” explained the assistant coach, who will continue to take center stage in the coming weeks.
