The Bundesliga transfer window closed on Tuesday evening. This means FC Bayern’s roster is set for the coming months. The Munich club signed three new players: Nathaniel Brown, Ismael Saibari, and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye. Sporting director Christoph Freund has now given a positive assessment of the transfer window.
Unlike in previous years, the German record champions completed their most important signings early. As a result, Brown and Saibari were able to complete much of their preseason training with their new team. Ndiaye was also signed to a permanent contract.
At the same time, Bayern parted ways with several players and deliberately reduced the size of their roster. For Freund, this very balance was a key part of the planning.
“I wouldn’t want to make a judgment call, but we’re satisfied with the structure of our roster. We signed our new players very early on, which was our goal,” the 49-year-old told Sky.
Bayern deliberately chose not to have too large a roster
The Munich club apparently did not aim to sign as many new players as possible this summer. Rather, the goal was for Vincent Kompany to have a compact roster that also offers enough room for young players.
“We’re satisfied with the roster; we didn’t want to make it too big,” Freund emphasized.
The development of the club’s own young talent plays a particularly important role in this approach. Players like Lennart Karl should not be blocked by numerous established new signings, but rather given regular opportunities to prove themselves with the first team.
Kompany, too, is increasingly committed to this approach. Young players should get their chances in training and, if they perform well, in competitive matches as well. For Bayern, youth development is thus an integral part of roster planning and not just a solution for personnel shortages.
In any case, Freund believes the record champions are well-prepared for the challenges ahead. “We’re in good shape, and I think we can look forward to the coming months with optimism,” the sporting director explained.
Kompany Denies Report About Transfer Request
A recent report had sparked debate, claiming that Kompany would have liked to sign a third high-profile player in addition to Brown and Saibari. The Bayern coach clearly denied this account on Friday.
“That’s completely out of the blue. I didn’t even wake up with that thought,” Kompany explained.
Freund also denied that such a request had been discussed within the club’s management: “We talk every day, and we’ve never discussed that.”
With this, Bayern’s management is demonstratively standing behind their shared transfer strategy. Instead of making another move for a big-name player just before the transfer window closes, the record champions are putting their trust in their existing roster.
The coming months will show whether this strategy pays off. Especially given the heavy workload from the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup, and the Champions League, it remains to be seen whether the deliberately compact roster has enough depth.
As far as Freund and Kompany are concerned, there appears to be no doubt about this at the moment. The most important transfers were completed early on, the roster was streamlined, and at the same time, space was created for the club’s own young talents. Now it’s up to the team to prove the Bayern bosses right on the field.
