FC Bayern is set to play its first match in the DFB Cup. The defending champions will travel to face second-division newcomer VfL Osnabrück on Wednesday evening. Kickoff at the Bremer Brücke is at 8:45 p.m.
The Munich team is entering the competition later than most other teams. During the actual Cup weekend, Vincent Kompany’s team faced Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup. That’s why the match against Osnabrück was rescheduled for this Wednesday.
Following their 5-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart in their Bundesliga opener, Bayern now aim to live up to their role as favorites in the cup as well and advance confidently to the next round.

There’s good news for Bayern fans: The cup match will even be broadcast on free-to-air TV.
ARD will broadcast the match live and free of charge on Wednesday evening. Pre-game coverage from the Bremer Brücke begins at 8:15 p.m., with kickoff following half an hour later.
In addition, Sky will broadcast the match on pay TV. Subscribers can also watch the game via livestream using Sky Go and the streaming service WOW.

Urbig is set to play against Osnabrück
Given the tight schedule, Kompany is likely to make changes to his lineup in several positions. One change is already confirmed: Jonas Urbig will start in goal in place of Manuel Neuer. Kompany confirmed this at the pre-match press conference.

Despite the clear division of roles, the Munich team has no intention of underestimating the second-division side. Osnabrück celebrated its first win of the season in the 2. Bundesliga last weekend at VfL Bochum. Prior to that, Timo Schultz’s team had lost to 1. FC Magdeburg and at 1. FC Heidenheim.
Schultz nevertheless believes his team has a chance to pull off a cup upset. “We want to—and we will—make things as difficult as possible for Bayern. We have nothing to lose. I’m firmly convinced that anything is possible in soccer.”
