FC Bayern is committed to continuity in its leadership. The contracts of Jan-Christian Dreesen and Max Eberl have been extended for the long term.
It’s now official: FC Bayern has extended the contracts of CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and Sporting Director Max Eberl. Both executives will remain with the German record champions through June 30, 2029.
The decision was made on Tuesday during a regular meeting of the supervisory board. With this move, the Munich-based club is committing to long-term continuity in its leadership. Together with Rouven Kasper, Executive Director of Marketing and Sales, Dreesen and Eberl will continue to form the three-member executive board of FC Bayern München AG.
Supervisory Board Chairman Herbert Hainer welcomed the decision and believes the club is well-positioned for the coming years.
“Continuity provides direction, and stability brings strength: we need both to consistently develop FC Bayern at the highest level. Especially in the dynamic competitive landscape where a top international club must forge its own path, consistency reflects a clear conviction. With Jan-Christian Dreesen, Max Eberl, and Rouven Kasper, our Executive Board is exceptionally well-positioned to drive FC Bayern forward both on the field and financially and to maintain its leading position in Europe.”
Eberl is pleased with this “valuable gesture”
Speculation about an impending contract extension had already been circulating in recent weeks, particularly regarding Eberl. The 52-year-old has served as FC Bayern’s sporting director since March 2024 and, together with sporting director Christoph Freund, is responsible for the record champion’s sporting direction.
After the announcement, Eberl himself made clear how significant the contract extension is to him: “FC Bayern has been close to my heart ever since my time in the youth academy. Just like my colleagues on the executive board, it is therefore important to me to continue on the path we have chosen and, in the spirit of the entire FC Bayern family, to continue doing everything I can to ensure sporting success in the future. The trust of the supervisory board is a valuable sign of support, and I am very pleased about it.”
Eberl’s connection to FC Bayern goes back a long way. Born in Lower Bavaria, he joined the club’s youth academy at the age of six, progressed through all the junior teams, and eventually made the leap to the first team. After his playing career, he worked in management at Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig before returning to Munich in 2024.
Dreesen also expressed his gratitude for the Supervisory Board’s confidence: “First of all, I’d like to thank the Supervisory Board for their confidence. I look forward to continuing my work at FC Bayern with energy and passion. As the Executive Board, together with our employees, members, and fans, we will continue to do everything we can to ensure that FC Bayern remains the top club we’re all proud of. That’s what drives us—and we still have a lot planned.”
The 58-year-old has been a member of FC Bayern’s Executive Board since 2013. Dreesen initially served as Chief Financial Officer before being promoted to Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board in 2014. He has served as Chairman of the Executive Board of FC Bayern München AG since May 2023.
With these two contract extensions, the record champion is now providing early clarity regarding the most important positions in its executive leadership. Dreesen and Eberl are thus expected to continue on the current course at least through 2029.
