Erling Haaland and FC Bayern—this topic continues to spark speculation. Even before his move to Manchester City, the Munich club was closely monitoring the Norwegian striker. Now, the superstar is once again being linked to the German record champions. Bayern President Herbert Hainer has commented on a possible transfer and, at least for the distant future, has not ruled it out entirely.
The latest discussions have been sparked by Manchester City’s sporting future. In the event of a possible relegation for the top English club, there has recently been speculation about whether Haaland might leave the team.
FC Bayern has also been mentioned as a potential suitor in this context. After all, the Norwegian has been one of the world’s most dangerous strikers for years and has been on Munich’s wish list in the past.
Hainer Responds to Haaland Rumors
In an interview with BILD, Hainer was specifically asked whether Haaland could be an option for Bayern Munich in the event of Manchester City’s relegation.
The 72-year-old first highlighted the quality of Bayern’s current attacking lineup and made it clear that the Munich club currently sees no urgent need for action. “With Kane, Olise, Díaz, and the others, we have an outstanding forward line. We scored over 120 goals last season. So I think we’re very well positioned in attack,” Hainer explained.
In doing so, the Bayern president clearly expressed his support for the record champions’ current offense.
With Harry Kane, the Munich club already has one of the best center forwards in the world. Together with Michael Olise and Luis Díaz, the Englishman forms an attacking trio that consistently scores numerous goals.
Under these circumstances, an additional superstar like Haaland would certainly be appealing from a sporting perspective, but it’s hardly necessary at the moment.
Haaland as Kane’s successor? Hainer isn’t ruling anything out

Things got interesting, however, when asked whether Haaland might become a possibility in a few years—perhaps as a long-term successor to Harry Kane.
Here, Hainer’s response was significantly more open. “If we’re talking about the future in a few years, the situation will be different, and we’ll see,” explained the Bayern boss.
While this doesn’t necessarily imply any concrete transfer plans, Hainer also avoided outright ruling out a potential Haaland transfer.
The Munich club is already looking at the long-term composition of its offense. Kane is now 33 years old, and his current contract runs through the summer of 2027.
FC Bayern is currently working intensively on an early contract extension with the England national team captain. President Hainer recently confirmed that talks are going very well and that only details remain to be worked out.
Bayern had already had its sights set on Haaland earlier
It comes as no surprise that Haaland fundamentally fits FC Bayern’s athletic profile. Even during his time at Borussia Dortmund, the Munich club was considering signing the Norwegian.
Ultimately, the striker decided to join Manchester City in the summer of 2022.
However, a new attempt would involve significant financial challenges. In addition to a potential record transfer fee, FC Bayern would also have to factor in the striker’s high salary.
Furthermore, any potential departure from Manchester City is currently pure speculation.
For the immediate future, Bayern will therefore continue to rely on Harry Kane. Should the situation change in a few years, however, Haaland could once again come into focus.
Hainer’s statements at least show that the Bayern president does not want to categorically rule out signing the Norwegian in the future.
