Harry Kane’s contract extension with FC Bayern appears to be getting closer and closer. For weeks, the Munich club has been working to keep their star striker at the club beyond 2027. Recently, there have been conflicting reports about the status of the negotiations. Now, President Herbert Hainer has provided new insights and revealed which points still need to be clarified between the two sides.
The England national team captain feels extremely at home in Munich and can envision a long-term future with the German record champions. Bayern officials have also long made it clear that they would like to continue working with the 33-year-old.
Most recently, Sky even reported a breakthrough in the talks. According to the report, an extension through 2029 is on the table. However, no official agreement has been announced yet.
Hainer: “I’m very, very optimistic”
In a live broadcast on BILD, Hainer spoke at length about the Bayern striker’s future. The president made it clear that he is confident a successful agreement will be reached.
“I’m very optimistic; I know from Jan Dreesen and our executive board that the talks are going very well. Harry and his family feel extremely at home in Munich,” explained the 72-year-old.
Hainer then added: “I’m very, very optimistic that it will work out soon!”
With that, the Bayern boss confirmed the positive trend of the past few weeks. Kane himself had also emphasized on several recent occasions that he feels at home with the Munich club and sees no reason to rush the contract negotiations.
For both sides, continuing their partnership seems to be the preferred solution.
Not the contract length: These details are still up in the air

Hainer’s comments on the still-unresolved contract terms were particularly interesting.
In recent weeks, there had been repeated speculation that Kane and Bayern had not yet reached an agreement on the duration of a new contract.
The president has now explicitly refuted this claim. “No, not at all. There are many details to work out—image rights, personal rights, and so on. We’re clarifying these details. It’s not about the contract term or anything like that,” Hainer clarified.
Accordingly, it appears that contractual side agreements are the main focus of the ongoing talks.
Especially in the case of an internationally marketed superstar like Kane, image rights and personal rights can play an important role. The precise terms of such agreements can be correspondingly complex.
The fact that the contract term is not a point of contention, according to Hainer, is likely to give Bayern officials additional confidence.
Bayern wants to keep Kane as a key player for the long term
For the record-holding champions, extending Kane’s contract is a top priority. The Englishman is not only the team’s top scorer but has also established himself as a leader.
In addition, despite his age, Kane continues to play at the highest level and has recently even spoken publicly about a career that could still be very long.
A new contract through 2029 would give FC Bayern long-term planning security at a key position.
It remains to be seen when the contract will actually be signed. However, Hainer’s statements suggest that talks are well advanced and that club officials are now primarily focusing on the finer details.
An official confirmation is still pending. However, there appears to be a great deal of confidence at Säbener Straße that Kane will continue his successful run with FC Bayern.
