Harry Kane is considered one of the top contenders to win the Ballon d’Or. Some experts see him as the frontrunner, while others have different favorites, including Ousmane Dembélé. The competition is fierce, but Kane’s most recent season was absolutely outstanding.
Kane won every domestic title with Bayern Munich, finished third at the World Cup, and reached the Champions League semifinals. While Spain did win the World Cup, they didn’t have that one standout player.
And while PSG’s Champions League victory certainly plays a role, Dembele wasn’t dominant—especially in the league—because he was often rested.
Rouven Kasper: A trophy for Kane would be hugely significant
Rouven Kasper, FC Bayern’s Executive Director of Marketing and Sales, believes that winning the Ballon d’Or would be hugely important for the English striker—not only for Kane personally, but also for the record-holding champions.
“From a branding perspective, it would put us in a different league. Being a platform for a Ballon d’Or winner is something that counts for more than statistics,” Sky quotes Kasper as saying. He continued: “Having a player like that would also be a great honor for the club. And it would certainly boost our global efforts. It sends a strong signal to others.”
There’s still some time before the trophy is awarded. The ceremony will take place in London on October 26 of this year. Until then, Kane still has the opportunity to make a case for himself and draw attention to his achievements—with goals, but also with assists and many strong performances.
Kane himself, of course, also hopes that he’ll succeed in winning this trophy. He believes he’s had a very good season and that he couldn’t have given any more. It remains to be seen whether that will be enough.
