Thomas Müller was the guest of honor at the Allianz Arena during the 2-2 draw against Mainz, but anyone hoping for the Bayern legend to return in an official capacity soon will be disappointed for the time being
CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen made it clearin an interview with the Münchner Abendzeitung that there are currently no concrete plans for Müller to return to FC Bayern
The 36-year-old sat in the stands at the Mainz game in a row with Dreesen, sporting director Max Eberl and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. The exchange was relaxed and cordial. „Thomas was in a good mood, we had fun. It was nice that he visited us,“ said Dreesen. Müller reported that he felt very comfortable at the Vancouver Whitecaps and had been given an excellent reception there. „As long as he still feels fit enough, he will continue to play,“ said the Bayern boss
However, Dreesen is deliberately putting off thoughts about a role for Müller at the record champions. When asked about a possible time for talks, he made it clear: „It’s still too early. He is currently focusing on his time as a player.“ For Müller, the focus is currently not on planning the time afterwards, but on his active career in Canada
Dreesen would like to see Müller return to FC Bayern
One point in particular is crucial: distance. „Thomas will certainly want to gain further experience first and also gain a certain distance. I think that’s the right thing to do,“ explained Dreesen. Only then should Müller clarify for himself what his second career could look like. The club’s wish is nevertheless clearly formulated. „It is well known that we would all like him to play a role at FC Bayern at some point,“ emphasised the CEO

Müller’s visit to Munich brought back memories for many fans, partly because he was visibly at ease and applauded Lennart Karl’s goal standing up. In sporting terms, however, his path is clearly mapped out for the time being. The Vancouver Whitecaps recently confirmed that Müller will continue to play for the MLS club in 2026
This rules out a quick return to Säbener Strasse. FC Bayern is deliberately giving its club icon time – and Müller himself should find out what he really wants after the end of his active career without any pressure.
