Maurice Krattenmacher didn’t just draw attention to himself with his dream goal in FC Bayern’s 2-1 victory over SV Elversberg. The 21-year-old is currently putting in strong performances—and could thus re-establish himself as a contender for a spot on the German record champions’ roster in the long run.
Krattenmacher made a permanent transfer from Bayern to Elversberg this summer for around two million euros. However, as the Abendzeitung Münchenreports, the Munich club hasn’t completely lost sight of the offensive player and secured a buyback option as part of the transfer.
The German U-20 national team player’s development in the first few weeks of the new season has been particularly remarkable. Krattenmacher came off the bench to score in each of the first three Bundesliga matchdays, netting three goals already. This makes him the best substitute in Europe’s top leagues at the moment.
The left winger also demonstrated his qualities against his former club. After coming off the bench, he scored the temporary 1-1 equalizer with a spectacular curling shot into the far corner. Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig had no chance on the shot.
After the final whistle, he even received praise from the Munich camp. “That was a great goal by Kratti,” said Aleksandar Pavlovic, who knows Krattenmacher from their time together. Sporting director Max Eberl was also impressed: “He seems to be on a roll right now.”
Bayern continues to believe in his talent
Krattenmacher’s path to becoming a professional began at FC Bayern. The Munich-born attacking player came up through the youth ranks of the record champions before transferring to SpVgg Unterhaching in 2017. In 2023, he returned to the Bayern fold as a promising professional.
However, he did not play a single competitive match for the Munich club’s first team. Instead, Krattenmacher was loaned out first to SSV Ulm and then to Hertha BSC. In 54 second-division matches, he scored a total of three goals.

With his permanent transfer to Elversberg, the Bayern chapter initially seemed to be over. However, the buyback option shows that Bayern still sees potential in their homegrown player. In the long run, Krattenmacher could even become an interesting option as a possible backup for Luis Díaz.
Krattenmacher himself recently emphasized that young players sometimes have to take detours: “Of course, it’s every young player’s dream to play for FC Bayern. But I’m someone who, especially at my age, wants to play regularly. I think sometimes you have to take a step back in order to take two steps forward.”
This is exactly the path he could be taking right now in Elversberg—and thereby keep the door to Munich open for himself.
