After the Catalan newspaper SPORT reported on possible interest from FC Barcelona at the beginning of November, the renowned British Guardian has now followed suit: the Catalans are said to have made the FC Bayern striker their top transfer target for the summer of 2026.
According to the report, Barça are desperately looking for a successor to Robert Lewandowski, whose contract expires next year and is unlikely to be renewed. Kane is said to be the preferred solution of sporting director Deco and coach Hansi Flick.
Kane as Lewandowski’s heir – but Bayern want to extend his contract
The England captain is still under contract with FC Bayern until 2027 and the Munich club are not thinking of selling him – on the contrary: they want to extend the 32-year-old’s contract in the long term.
Chief Sports Officer Max Eberl explained in kicker: „Harry knows our appreciation, we feel his appreciation and that he feels extremely comfortable here. The talks will begin sometime in the next few months.“
Kane himself repeatedly emphasized that he feels „extremely comfortable“ in Munich and is still pursuing big goals with Bayern. The attacker has been a central component in Bayern’s attacking system since his move from Tottenham in the summer of 2023.
According to the Guardian, FC Barcelona would have to activate Kane’s exit clause of 65 million euros – as early as this winter – in order to be able to sign the goalscorer next summer.
Added to this is Kane’s high salary: the striker earns over 20 million euros per year at the German record champions. In view of the Catalans‘ tight financial situation, such a deal currently seems extremely unrealistic.
Bayern remain relaxed
At Säbener Straße, the speculation is therefore being followed calmly. For Bayern, one thing is certain: Kane is the sporting center of the Kompany project – and should remain so beyond 2027.
A move to Barcelona would only be conceivable if the Catalans could work their financial magic – and if Kane himself really wanted a new adventure. But that doesn’t look likely at the moment.
