Will an Italian take over the coaching job at FC Bayern? Apparently, sporting director Max Eberl is considering Roberto De Zerbi for the vacant coaching position at Bayern.
It was revealed a few days ago and has now been confirmed once again: According to information from Sky, Roberto De Zerbi is on FC Bayern Munich’s shortlist regarding a successor to Thomas Tuchel as FCB’s head coach.
The 44-year-old is a candidate should the endeavours surrounding Xabi Alonso come to nothing. According to Sky, Max Eberl is a big fan of the Italian head coach, who currently coaches Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.
De Zerbi: Impressive style of play and talent development
This is due to De Zerbi’s style of play, but also his ability to develop talent, the report continues.
However, another big name in football coaching is not on the agenda at Säbener Straße: José Mourinho is currently not considered to have any chance of taking over as coach in Munich. As Xabi Alonso wants to take his time deciding on his future and several well-known clubs (Liverpool, Real Madrid) are being considered alongside Leverkusen, De Zerbi could possibly have a good chance.
De Zerbi, who himself played in Italy from 1997 to 2013, built up a good reputation in his home country with clubs such as Foggia, US Palermo, Benevento and US Sassuolo. From 2021 to 2022, he took charge of Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine before moving to the Premier League in September 2022.
