Florian Wirtz’s difficult situation on the field at Liverpool FC is once again fueling speculation about his future. Most recently, Bayern Munich has once again been mentioned as a possible destination. After all, the Munich club had already made an intensive effort to sign the national team player before his move to England.
However, there are currently no concrete signs of a new push by Bayern. SPORT1 reporter Stefan Kumberger has significantly dampened the speculation.
“They’re not exactly putting out feelers in Munich,” Kumberger explained with regard to a possible transfer. In his view, the record champions currently have no urgent need—even from a sporting perspective—for another top attacking star.
Bayern apparently sees no need for Wirtz
“FC Bayern is really well-stocked on offense. Bayern already has everything they need in their roster,” the SPORT1 reporter emphasized.
With Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise, the Munich club already has two players whose strengths lie in similar attacking roles. Added to this is the financial aspect of a potential Wirtz transfer.
“We mustn’t forget that he was very, very expensive when he went to England. Liverpool knows how to do the math, too, and they won’t want to sell him off to Munich for a song,” said Kumberger.
This assessment from Munich thus contradicts—at least for now—recent reports emerging from England. There, among other things, there has been speculation that Wirtz might be open in principle to a return to the Bundesliga and that Bayern is monitoring his situation.
Kumberger warns, however, against drawing concrete transfer conclusions from the current situation: “We’re still talking about things that haven’t happened yet. Florian Wirtz still has a few months to prove himself—to show that he’s in good hands at Liverpool. At the moment, there just aren’t many signs that give me cause for optimism.”
Hamann raises the possibility of a departure from Liverpool
Dietmar Hamann also takes a critical view of the 23-year-old’s development. The former Liverpool pro described the collaboration between Wirtz and the Reds so far as a possible “major misunderstanding.”

Hamann therefore plans to pay particular attention to how Wirtz performs under Jürgen Klopp during the upcoming international matches. The national team player has been named to the DFB’s second squad and will thus feature in the matches against Serbia and Greece.
If Wirtz’s situation at Liverpool FC does not improve as a result, Hamann even considers consequences to be possible: “Because if things continue this way in Liverpool, then I could imagine the plug being pulled at some point.”
However, it cannot be concluded from this that this would automatically lead to a move to Munich. According to Kumberger’s current assessment, Bayern is not actively working on a Wirtz transfer. Their past interest is well known—but there does not appear to be a new push at the moment.
