FC Bayern are set for another hot European Cup evening. Max Eberl is looking forward to the second leg against PSG with great anticipation and has clear words for the first leg.
After the spectacular 5:4 win in the semi-final first leg at Paris Saint-Germain, the next big Champions League clash awaits FC Bayern on Wednesday evening. The German champions go into the second leg with a deficit, but the starting position once again promises maximum tension.
Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl was full of anticipation ahead of the clash. The 52-year-old refused to accept the criticism of the defensive style of play of both teams after the wild first clash. Eberl explained: „You won’t change the basic DNA of a team and you don’t want to change it, that’s why you’re so successful. And the game against Paris on Tuesday was, if I can say so casually, perversely awesome!“
Eberl addresses mistakes in the defense
For the Munich side, the reckoning ahead of the second leg is clear. Eberl knows that FC Bayern must deliver offensively after the narrow defeat in Paris: „That’s what soccer is all about. But it’s clear that we have to score at least one more goal than our opponents on Wednesday. And in the best case, two more to progress.“
The first leg was characterized by high tempo, many chances and strong attacking lines. Harry Kane, Michael Olise and the Bayern attackers fought a duel with PSG at the highest level, in which both teams hardly allowed any periods of rest. Eberl classified the game accordingly: „On Tuesday, the offensive players made fewer mistakes than perhaps one or two in the defense or in the rest of the defense, when I think of the midfield.“
The Bayern boss left it open as to whether the second leg would be just as wild. „It was a very open game after all. I can’t say yet what will happen on Wednesday,“ said Eberl. After the dramatic draw against Heidenheim with the late 3-3 equaliser, Munich now face another emotional evening.
