FC Bayern Munich continues to show great interest in a reinforcement from Spain. Defender Ronald Araújo has been the subject of rumours in Munich for months. A Spanish media report has now reignited the transfer rumours.

Araújo has been linked with a possible transfer for some time and now it could become more concrete. The portal fichajes.net reports that FC Bayern, along with Manchester United and Chelsea FC, are among the main interested parties for the 25-year-old Uruguayan.

The report leaves open who has the best cards in the race for the Barca star. However, it emphasises that Bayern are firmly convinced that Araújo would bring quality and depth to their defence. In particular, coach Thomas Tuchel, whose return to Munich seems possible, is a big fan of the 1.92 metre defender.

There was already speculation about Bayern’s interest in Araújo last winter transfer window, with possible transfer fees of around 80 million euros. A new attempt next summer now seems likely. Fichajes.net emphasises that Barcelona are quite prepared to sell Araújo, as financial income is urgently needed and the defensive department is already well-staffed.

Transfer fee too high for FC Bayern?

Despite Araújo’s potential availability, the transfer fee of up to 100 million euros could be a hurdle for FC Bayern. This sum appears to be relatively high for the Bundesliga club. Especially in view of the fact that Bayern are likely to be looking to strengthen several positions in the summer. Barca are hoping to achieve a high sum for the defender in order to improve their own finances.

Ronald Araújo himself is a key figure in the Catalans‘ defence and has even worn the captain’s armband on several occasions. He has appeared in 36 games for the Blaugrana this season. His performances have made him a sought-after player on the European market.
