Leon Goretzka’s form has been on the up for weeks. Nevertheless, the Bayern star is in danger of missing out on the upcoming national team squad. The 29-year-old has now made it clear that he wants to fight for his place in the DFB squad until the very end.

While Leon Goretzka had to fight for his regular place at FC Bayern at the start of the year and was often criticised, the midfielder has shown strong form in recent weeks. Goretzka was one of Bayern’s best players in the Champions League clash against FC Arsenal.

In the 5:1 win against Union Berlin, the 29-year-old went straight into action and not only put Munich ahead, but also set up Thomas Müller’s second goal.

„Wants to jump on the bandwagon somehow“

Despite his strong performances for FC Bayern, Goretzka was recently not called up for the DFB squad. According to rumours, the 57-time international is even at risk of missing out on the European Championship.

The reason: Julian Nagelsmann has many options in midfield. Returning player Toni Kroos is set, as is captain İlkay Gündoğan. Pascal Groß, Robert Andrich and club colleague Aleksandar Pavlovic are also vying for a place in the German squad for the European Championship.

Goretzka was combative with regard to EURO 2024: „That’s my clear goal. My attitude is that I always try to be on the pitch and show Julian that I’m there and that I’ll take on the fight,“ he emphasised on Sky on Saturday.

The FCB star wants to do everything he can to secure a place in the squad right up to the end: „I’m trying to bring it onto the pitch week after week to somehow get on the train to the Euros.

According to reports, Nagelsmann is convinced of Goretzka’s athletic ability. However, the national coach is said to have doubts as to whether the Bochum native is prepared to accept a reserve role without grumbling.

      1. @Bayernfan…
