FC Bayern Munich had to pay dearly for their 2-0 win against 1. FC Köln on Saturday afternoon. Winger Kingsley Coman suffered an injury and could now miss several important matches. Initial reactions point to a lengthy forced break, which could even jeopardise his participation in the upcoming European Championship.

The 48th minute of the game was decisive for Coman when he went down while trying to dribble without making contact with an opponent and held his inner thigh. It was immediately clear that the injury was serious.

„It makes me very sad because I know how hard he has worked and how important he is for us,“ commented Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel on Sky after the game, visibly upset.

This injury comes at an unfavourable time with the Champions League quarter-final second leg against FC Arsenal behind them, as Bayern are already without Serge Gnabry, who is injured again. Leroy Sané’s involvement also seems uncertain, even though he has recently sent out positive signals.

„First Serge Gnabry is out, then he’s out and Leroy Sané is in the stars. That’s bitter,“ said Tuchel, explaining the situation. The shortage of personnel has therefore worsened ahead of the all-important match on Wednesday evening.

Things are „not looking quite so good“ for Coman

Later that evening, the club confirmed that Coman had been diagnosed with a muscle bundle injury in his right adductor. He is expected to be out for several weeks.

Although the prognosis initially sounded less serious, Sky reports that Coman is unlikely to play again this season. The broadcaster also reported that his participation in the European Championships was in jeopardy. However, this information was put into perspective by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who emphasised that the European Championship is currently not in danger for the French international.

Coman has already had to contend with muscular problems and a ligament injury in his knee this season, which has limited his appearances to 16 Bundesliga games.
