In the midst of FC Bayern’s disappointing season, which reached its low point in the defeats against Dortmund and in Heidenheim, sporting director Max Eberl has announced a comprehensive reorganisation of the team.

Eberl, visibly frustrated by the latest results, vented his displeasure after the defeat in Heidenheim: „We should all be ashamed of ourselves today.“ The new Bayern sporting director urged: „And we should see to it that we represent the Bayern crest more worthily relatively quickly.“ Eberl’s criticism was aimed in particular at the players, while he emphasised that coach Thomas Tuchel will retain his position for the time being. Tuchel now faces the challenge of turning things around in the upcoming Champions League match against FC Arsenal.

Eberl, who only recently took up his post amid Munich’s turmoil, expressed his surprise at the lack of stability within the team: „This is not the Bayern Munich I knew.“

In view of the obvious problems, he announced a significant shake-up for the new season. There would have to be „some changes in the team.“ With regard to the current players, Eberl said: „We have a test of character here. We passed it in the first half and failed it in the second half.“

„Not what Thomas deserves“

Eberl praised Tuchel’s commitment and emotional speeches before the Heidenheim game, which, however, did not have the desired effect: „Thomas put everything into this meeting room. If that’s what you get back, it’s definitely not what Thomas deserves.“

After the game, Thomas Müller, who celebrated a personal anniversary with his 700th competitive match for the German record champions, also commented on the situation with a touch of irony: „Everyone involved realises that we’re not in the best phase of the club’s history.“ Nevertheless, he emphasised the team’s continued willingness to fight: „It’s not as if we’re picking our noses and don’t care about anything.“
