FC Bayern Munich and Ronald Araújo – this has been a hot transfer rumour in the recent past. Barça president Joan Laporta has now spoken out on the subject and appears to rule out a transfer.

Journalists from the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo asked Barça president Joan Laporta whether Ronald Araújo will remain under contract at FC Barcelona next season. The president’s clear answer: „Yes!“ The official was also confronted with the fact that the German record champions are said to have already made two offers for the Uruguay international.

Barça boss on the Araújo deal: „Bayern is Bayern“

„Well, Bayern is Bayern. We often hear different opinions about Barça, but the truth is: Barça is in a much better position now than before,“ explained the 61-year-old. The aim of the Catalans, who are considered to be in dire straits, is to „recover economically and if the current measures bear fruit, we will soon have positive news. This will lead to a healthy club with a bright present and a sustainable economic future,“ explained Laporta euphorically.

Will the club then no longer be reliant on the high income from the Araújo deal and be able to cancel the German record champions without worry? The defender himself recently stated in an interview with Uruguayan radio station Sport 890 that he is happy at Barcelona. Regarding his future, however, he said: „I don’t know what will happen.“

According to Sky, Bayern are not planning any costly investment, but Araújo, who can also play on the right side of defence, is definitely on their wish list. The 16-time Uruguay international is still under contract with FC Barcelona until 2026. There have been repeated reports about the potential transfer fee, which is rumoured to be around 100 million euros.
